Royal Mint

Royal Mint The organization in the UK that has had the sole right to manufacture English coins since the 16th century. Controlled by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, it was formerly situated in the City of London but moved to Llantrisant in Wales in 1968. It also makes banknotes, UK medals, and increasing quantities of foreign coins (now about 65% of the Mint's total output).
