During two protests in Albany County on Saturday, the Rev. Al Sharpton unsuccessfully demanded to start a jail term early and promised to undertake a hunger strike once he is behind bars.
"They've had two opportunities to put me in jail and now they'll have to come get me," Sharpton said after a wall of uniformed Albany County sheriff's deputies blocked him and about 150 followers from walking up the front steps of the county jail in Colonie. "How will they explain it to the taxpayers here in Albany when they have to pay to go to New York City to pick me up?"
