Vic: Vizard to replace Walker at major events helm = 2

Mr Vizard, who will serve a three-year term, encouraged cooperation between the states
to attract events to Australia.

He said he would continue his involvement with the National Gallery of Victoria, where
he is president of the board of trustees, when he takes on his role with major events.

Mr Bracks paid tribute to Mr Walker for his commitment to Victoria and for his critical
role over 10 years to promoting the state internationally.

"Over the past decade Ron and his small team have secured events which have delivered
the world's best competitors to our doorstep," Mr Bracks said.

"Those events have generated more than $2 billion of economic benefits for Victoria
- and there are another $2 billion worth in the pipeline."

Mr Bracks said Mr Walker would continue to serve the state as chairman of the Australian
Grand Prix Corporation and the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Committee, and as a trustee
of the National Gallery of Victoria.
